Although I arrived late, I was glad to see that, as usual— there was a good turn out this year. Many folks are not aware that the auction ends and is cleared out an hour before the event ends. The space at the Marriott is donated, so the staff and volunteers do a very efficiently speedy job of cleaning up and out, which while impressive and commendable, left some interested parties bewildered, lacking a chance to look carefully at the art before they finished considering making their bids. So all interested in attending next year, be warned: make selections early on, and then enjoy the wine tasting and hors d’oeuvres. For this year’s submission, I created a painting from photos I’d taken of the 2014 Old Spanish Days Parade in Santa Barbara. The flamenco dancers were talent from the schools of Linda Vega and Daniela Zermeño. I put them and one of the musicians in the parade into a landscape inspired by Bridlewood Winery. Below are the limited number of photos I got this year before the auction art was snatched away. This year I submitted, “Baile.” The original painting is on the wall, and a framed print on canvas was shown on the table. Also visible are pieces by Suzan Hamilton-Todd and Seyburn Zorthian.
